The Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank wouldn’t exist without the contributions of members of our community – just like you. Join the over 1000 people who volunteer with us annually, and help to serve your community!

We accept and support:

  • Individual Volunteers
  • Group and Corporate Volunteers
  • Student Volunteers
  • Internships and Other Placements

We want to ensure each volunteer has a positive and rewarding experience with us. Some groups will volunteer once in the year, while others will volunteer week after week – some for a decade or more!

As a Volunteer you may be involved in helping with any of the following events/areas:

  • Emergency hamper room
  • Co-op store
  • Clothing room
  • Warehouse support
  • Special events
  • Serving on the Board of Directors or other committees

Current Volunteer Positions Needed:

Community Pantry Attendant/ Distribution Center

We are seeking 1 volunteer to help in our Pantry and Distribution Center. The volunteer will alternate weekly helping in each area.

In the pantry the volunteer will assist participants in getting their food basket, stock shelves, place warehouse orders when stock is low and general upkeep.

In the Distribution Center the volunteer will help sort food, pack agency orders and general upkeep.

This is a weekly opportunity needed on Thursday afternoons from 12pm-4:30pm in the Pantry and 1pm-4pm in the Distribution Center.

Handy person needed

Are you handy? Do you like to do odd jobs? If so we’re looking for you!

We are in need of a volunteer to do some odd jobs around the Food Bank, like hanging shelving, installing brackets for TV’s, etc etc.

Volunteer Driver

We are seeking a volunteer driver who can drive our cargo van.

The volunteer will pick up food donations from local grocery stores and businesses/ groups hosting food drives.

The volunteer must be over 25 yrs of age, have a clean drivers abstract as well as the ability to lift 50+lbs.

We are looking for someone Monday – Friday 9am-1230pm. Please contact Tara for more information.

Food Savers Club

We are looking for volunteers to help us reduce our food waste by preserving, freezing and repackaging food to extend its life so we are able to feed more people. The Food Savers club meets every Tuesday from 1pm – 4pm, Wednesdays from 930am-12pm and Thursdays from 3pm-630pm.

Run A Food Drive

Class, Neighbourhood, Business, Church, etc.

Food drives are a great way to make a difference in ending hunger and to give back to your community. Anyone can run a food drive, at any time of year, and no amount is too small.
