How Does Your Sponsorship Help?
At the Cambridge Food Bank, lies a mission of building health and belonging through food, touching the lives of nearly 1,800 families each month in Cambridge and North Dumfries. From our main Ainslie Street location to two off-sites, we strive to meet the growing need for food assistance in our community.
Since the onset of the pandemic, the number of households we support has surged by over 70%, reflecting the deepening impact of food insecurity on families across our region. Yet, amidst these challenges, we remain committed to providing essential support to those in need.
Meet Kelly and Theo, two individuals whose stories exemplify the resilience and potential of those facing food insecurity in our community.
Kelly, a hardworking mother, found herself struggling to make ends meet in a low-wage, precarious job while caring for her children. When she turned to the Cambridge Food Bank for emergency food assistance, she didn’t just receive nourishment for her family; she embarked on a journey of self-sufficiency. Through our long-term support programs, Kelly gained the tools and resources she needed to overcome adversity. Today, she now steadily employed, earning a good income that allows her and her family to thrive and fully participate in her community.
Similarly, Theo’s family faced unimaginable challenges when they fled from an abusive situation. His mother and five brothers sought assistance from the Cambridge Food Bank. Beyond providing food assistance, our team offered guidance, support, and connections that allowed Theo’s family to flourish in the face of adversity. Despite the odds stacked against them, Theo’s mother completed her education and pursued a career in family law, while Theo himself achieved success as a professional athlete, recently being drafted by the New York Giants. Their story is a reminder that with the right support and resources, anything is possible.
These stories of resilience and triumph are made possible by the generosity and support of our community. Contributions not only provide food assistance but also create pathways for individuals like Kelly and Theo to realize their full potential and contribute positively to their communities.
As food insecurity continues to rise, the Cambridge Food Bank is committed to addressing the growing need in our community. Through our advocacy, our community donations and fundraisers, we will continue to feed our community, providing nourishment and hope to those who need it most.
